Hey guys!

So yesterday I kinda went off on a random tangent instead of staying on course with my high-speed photography posts. So today I thought I’d make it up to you and share a bit more on the high speed topic.

I’ve done a bit more browsing on the topic, and it was quite discouraging here for a little while. So many blogs and tutorials make high speed photography out to be so complex. I did find a decent explanation that is not so complex, and I actually recommend this site because I’ve gotten quite a bit out of reading their photography tips and tutorials (I even follow them on Twitter).

It’s a really short tutorial, so it doesn’t take up a lot of your time (unless you click on a few links and go try to figure out more info on the topic as I typically do).

The tutorial states that what you’ll need for taking high speed photography is an External Flash and a Flash Trigger. Of course you’ll need a camera as well, but that’s a given. Only 2 extra pieces of equipment though? I was pretty stoked, especially after reading a few other tutorials that had 6+ things you “HAD” to have.

They have products, activities, tools, etc. Lots of things that will be helpful in getting you started with high speed photography.

In my pursuit and research of high speed photography. I came across a couple of websites with very informative techniques.

The first one actually has multiple photography styles that it shares detailed information on, but if you’re interested in the high speed style – it is the first section:

Most of the sites I came across talk about a “flash controller” or a sound trigger, to syncronize the flash and shutter with the action.  This ensures that you don’t miss your opportunity to capture your desired effect in the photograph.  This is something I did not even factor.  I realized you have to have the shutter and flash go off at precisely the same time, but I was not sure how to accomplish this.  The website above was quite helpful.  If you click on the DIY – High Speed Photography at Home it gives you some great information.

In my research so far, I’m finding that high speed photography is a lot more complex than I had anticipated. But don’t let this stop you! I’m not finished with researching, and I believe there has got to be a way to take high speed photos without the sound trigger… but to manually take pictures with only the flash and very little equipment. I’ll keep you updated, and in the future I’ll be doing some high speed tests of my own.

Hey guys!

Alrighty, so I thought I would share something with you all (though I’m sure my readers have fizzled out quite a bit).

I was recently refered to a particular website by another photographer, so I thought I would share this great site as well. I haven’t had much time to really dive into it… but what I’ve seen so far has proven quite promising for any photographer level and interest.

It’s called MPix. It’s a site after my own heart.

This site is devoted to photography… and you don’t have to be a pro, or even just a beginner. It has stuff for all levels. You can upload your own photos, buy prints, share albums, join their photography community, read/post to their forum, purchase different photography products, etc. It’s really an awesome site!
