So I almost did not post my favorite flickr photo of the day. It’s a good thing I came across this one when I did. It is excellent. It is actually taken by one of the photographers I have already posted. It was just too good of a shot to not share though. I was pretty excited when I saw this photographer’s set of hummingbirds. Those are one of my favorite birds! Plus, they always seem so difficult to catch in a good photograph because they are so quick. This one is a really swell shot of a hummingbird! The focus is great, and the exposure is too! No distractions in the background because it is faded nicely. All around, to me, it’s just awesome. I love hummingbirds!

I just find this photo incredible. The light rays, colors, and lines draw you in… you feel like part of the picture. It’s a unique shot, and definitely a fave.

It’s definitely worth a view though.  I liked it because of it’s unique color and lighting.  Most “epic” photos of landscapes and mountains are really bright and the sky is overly perfect, but this photographer captured such grandiose scenery in a different way than the majority (so of course, I enjoy something less” cookie-cutter”).   The clouds/fog are amazing!

I’ve decided to create a “Favorite Flickr Photo of the Day”.  The idea is that I will view and search through photos on Flickr, photos taken by people from all walks of life and all different levels of photography – then choose one as my personal favorite and post it to this blog each day.

I have done both. I’ve always thought of myself as uncreative. Thought that I’m not the type of person who is artistic, can draw or paint beautiful landscapes, create music, or write novels, etc.

Something changed my perspective this past week however, and it was in something someone said – “Since you are created by a Creator [God], then you are creative”. In other words, since we were created in the image of the Creator, then it obvious that we too have it within us to be creative and create.

I thought this person had a very valid point.

Photography, is also art. It is a form of creativity. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to be creative, it just happens. Some people may be able to compose a photograph better than others, some may capture light better than others, some may photograph landscapes, while others may photograph people. Either way, you are using your creativity in some form or fashion.

Though you always take pictures of something God has created (whether it is a landscape, a person, or some objects created by a person created by God), you’re creating a composition and in some way creating a photograph.

Pretty cool thought, huh?

I think so.

So don’t ever think you are not creative. Photography is my creativity.

This is a great video I found that has a few tips from Professional Photography Nigel Barker. These are photography tips that everyone can use. In the video, Nigel Barker gives tips on how to take great outdoor group photos.

So whether you’re on vacation, at your child’s little league game, visiting the beach, etc., these tips will be helpful. I figured some photography tips from a professional photographer we all have either seen or heard of would have some great merit.

The video isn’t long, so definitely check it out.

No matter which level you currently are or what type of camera you have, keep on shooting those photos! Practice makes perfect…

So yesterday I kinda went off on a random tangent instead of staying on course with my high-speed photography posts. So today I thought I’d make it up to you and share a bit more on the high speed topic.

I’ve done a bit more browsing on the topic, and it was quite discouraging here for a little while. So many blogs and tutorials make high speed photography out to be so complex. I did find a decent explanation that is not so complex, and I actually recommend this site because I’ve gotten quite a bit out of reading their photography tips and tutorials (I even follow them on Twitter).

It’s a really short tutorial, so it doesn’t take up a lot of your time (unless you click on a few links and go try to figure out more info on the topic as I typically do).

The tutorial states that what you’ll need for taking high speed photography is an External Flash and a Flash Trigger. Of course you’ll need a camera as well, but that’s a given. Only 2 extra pieces of equipment though? I was pretty stoked, especially after reading a few other tutorials that had 6+ things you “HAD” to have.

Okay, so this may seem like a silly thing to blog on (and maybe it is). But this phrase for some reason has crossed my mind multiple times in the past week.

Let’s face it, the phrase itself is odd… “When life gives you lemons… make lemonade?”. Why make lemonade every time life gives you lemons? Alright, alright… so what’s my point here? I’m not actually certain, but I felt like sharing a bit of my odd brain and the random thought that has recently come to my head.

Life has given me some lemons, which is reason for why I haven’t utilized this blog very well. So maybe that’s why it’s on my mind.

Taking pictures of lemons…
This has multiple points to it. Take photos of literal LEMONS, the fruit. You can even make the lemonade and then take pictures of that.

Since this random phrase has come to my mind – I did a google image search on “lemons” to see some of the photography of this particular item. It’s quite versatile in the photography-sense. You can practice different facets of taking photos with lemons.

Practice composition, lighting, depth of field, rule of thirds, macro photography, etc. Try to capture the texture of the lemon. One thing I noticed is that there aren’t very many black and white photos of lemons, try taking some black and whites of the fruit. Lemons are bright and cheery, so try to creatively make them into something they aren’t naturally to add more of an artistic flair to a photo. Slice up some lemon in different ways and focus on the style of your photograph or create different patterns with the slices. There are endless possibilities.

The other “lemons” are not so literal. Take pictures of the “lemons” life gives you… the tough times and the emotions that go with it. Capturing emotion is sometimes quite difficult. Try to capture something creative in this way, the life’s “lemons”. Poverty, hunger, loss, etc. Sometimes people need photographs like these to realize how blessed they are. Say something with your photography.

This may not have made much sense… but I really wish I had a bunch of lemons to take pictures of right at this moment.
